Our Faith

CPC Logo for web We live in a very diverse society made up of different ethnic, racial, social, and religious groups. Ask any person on the street "What is faith?" and you will find as many answers as people! Does it mean belief? trust? favor? What's the difference between saying to someone, "I have faith in you" and saying "I have faith in God"? Often we hear people speak very personally of "my faith." So what does it mean when we speak of "Our Faith?"

First, we can use the example of a body. Like a body it is made up of many parts. Paul, one sent by God, once said to the church in Corinth, "If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?" For one thing it would look pretty weird! As bodies are complex and amazing, so is the Christian Faith. It is a body of teachings and instructions given by God through the Bible, applied to a body of people who are called by God (the church), which brings glory to God and dignity to his people. This is in no way a complete definition but we're just getting started!
