What We Believe About the Gospel

The Gospel is both simple and complex.  It is complex in that the message that God has given to humanity is revealed in the whole Bible, showing who God is and who we are.  If you have ever picked up a Bible, you are almost at a loss as to where to start.  God has much to say!  However, the Gospel is simple in that it is centered on the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul gives a wonderful summary in one of his church letters: "Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

What the Bible says about humanity is we are created by God and bear his image (Genesis 1:27). Sin entered the world and now we live in such way that falls short of what we were created for, which was to glorify and enjoy God forever. We were and are separated from God. But God reached out in his great love and compassion and, in Christ, has come down and walked among us, shared our sorrow and carried our grief. Jesus lived without sin, died in the place of sinners, and rose again, to save his people from sin's guilt and penalty. In Christ alone our hope is found.
